Court of Heaven Part 3

· October 19, 2026

ANCHOR SCRIPTURE
I am writing this to you so that you will not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus Christ, the one who is truly righteous. (See 1 John 2:1, NLT)

Introduction: Who Speaks for You?

Imagine being charged in court with nobody beside you. No lawyer, no witness, no one to say a word. That picture frightens most of us.

In Part 2 we saw that heaven’s court asks for honesty. Today I want you to hear the good news that comes next. You do not stand there alone, and your case does not drag on forever. Three questions will lead us:

  1. Who speaks for me when I am accused?
  2. What evidence does my defense rest on?
  3. How does the case end?

The Advocate: Who Speaks for Me?

Jesus stands for you like a defense lawyer, but with divine authority. When an accusation comes, He does not wave it away. He answers it, and He bases His answer on His finished work on the Cross.

He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf. (See Hebrews 7:25, NLT)
  1. He answers. Every charge meets a reply.
  2. He has paid. His defense is not a clever argument. The price is already settled.
  3. He does not stop. He is never silent and never tired. Your case is never left unattended.

The Evidence: What Does the Blood Say?

Every court weighs evidence. In heaven’s court, the strongest exhibit is the blood of Jesus. Think of it as a receipt. When someone says you owe a debt, you do not argue. You show the receipt. The blood says the price has been paid, so no accusation can stand.

…the sprinkled blood, which speaks of forgiveness instead of crying out for vengeance as the blood of Abel did. (See Hebrews 12:24, NLT)

Abel’s blood cried out from the ground (See Genesis 4:10, NLT). It called for justice. The blood of Jesus speaks a better word. It does not cry against you. It speaks in your defense.

It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God. (See 1 Peter 1:19, NLT)

The Verdict: How Does It End?

Every case ends with a decision. For those in Christ, that decision has already been made in your favor.

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. (See Romans 8:1, NLT)

Paul tells us what happened to the charges against us:

  1. The charge sheet is gone. God canceled the record of the charges against us and nailed it to the cross (See Colossians 2:14, NLT).
  2. The powers were exposed. Jesus disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities and shamed them by His victory on the cross (See Colossians 2:15, NLT).
  3. We overcome. We defeat the accuser by the blood of the Lamb and by our testimony (See Revelation 12:11, NLT).

Conclusion: Case Closed

The accuser may still show up with his folder. That does not mean the case is open.

He may bring charges.

But he is arguing a closed case.

Where have you been living under a charge that the Cross already cancelled? Name it, and let the case remain closed.
